چکیده
Submitted for the MAR14 Meeting of The American Physical Society Self-organized criticality of protein folding simulations using AMBER parameters YURA SIM1, JOELLE MURRAY2, Linfield College — Selforganized criticality is a framework that can be used to describe many natural processes, ranging from avalanches to forest fires. These processes exhibit power-law characteristics and scale invariance. Self-organized critical systems have yet to be applied to protein folding and its identification as such may be useful to understanding protein behavior. A dynamical simulation was constructed using AMBER energy parameters and evidence of self-organized criticality was investigated. Furthermore, the features of self-organized criticality were used to explore the development of protein structures within the simulation. 1Student 2Faculty Yura Sim Linfield College Date submitted: 15 Nov 2013 Electronic form version 1.4

Submitted for the MAR10 Meeting of The American Physical Society Quantum Criticality in Coupled Spin-Dimer Systems STEFAN WESSEL, Stuttgart University, SANDRO WENZEL, EPFL Lausanne — We examine the properties of coupled quantum spin-dimers in two dimensions within the quantum critical regime. We find that depending on the dimer arrangement, further terms appear in addition to the quantum non-li...

Submitted for the MAR09 Meeting of The American Physical Society Miscibility Critical Points in Plasma Membranes BENJAMIN MACHTA, SARAH VEATCH, STEFANOS PAPANIKOLAOU, JAMES P. SETHNA, Cornell University — Lipid bilayers surround all cells and are home to a host of proteins and lipids that mediate interactions between the cell and its environment. Recent experimental work has shown that simple m...

Submitted for the MAR14 Meeting of The American Physical Society Avoiding Loopholes with Hybrid Bell-Leggett-Garg Inequalities JUSTIN DRESSEL, ALEXANDER KOROTKOV, Univ of California Riverside — By combining the postulates of macrorealism with Bell-locality, we derive a qualitatively different hybrid inequality that avoids two loopholes that commonly appear in Leggett-Garg and Bell inequalities....
